Welsh Vineyards

St Hilary Vineyard

Nestled in the heart of the glorious Vale of Glamorgan, St Hilary Vineyard is situated a mile from Cowbridge. Planted in 2021, this hectare of young vines graces the landscape with a gentle slope, in an environment where farming tradition meets modern vineyard techniques. Operated on low intervention, organic principles, with three varieties planted: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, owners Peter & Liz Loch planted their vines on premium farmland between an apple orchard, and a picturesque wildflower meadow. Their aim is to produce delicious, artisan Welsh wines reflective of place – the vineyard and all of the surroundings characteristics which make it special – and will produce initially still, but in time also luxury traditional method sparkling.

No pesticides or chemicals are used in the growing or production of our wine to allow for a truer expression of the grapes and their place in our unique location. Also tucked away down a lane by the vineyard is our vintage-style secluded holiday cottage, Highbrook Cottage.

The Dell Vineyard

The Dell Vineyard is located near the village of Raglan, Monmouthshire. A south facing vineyard nestled in the rolling hills above the Usk and Wye valleys, in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Planted in 2002, the established vineyard was eventually abandoned for a few years before being lovingly restored to its former glory in 2017. Dan and Lucy Alford were looking for something new after working through the covid pandemic, and in early 2021 took on the 1 acre site of 1600 vines as a starting point for their viticulture adventure. Plans are afoot to plant a further 5 acres of vines next year on the family farm located a few miles away. They aren’t open to visitors yet, but have big plans so stay tuned!

Gwinllan Hebron Vineyard

Gwinllan Hebron Vineyard was planted in 2010 by Jemma Vickers and Paul Rolt on South facing slopes in the Preseli foothills.
The vineyards are a unique Welsh example of regenerative, non intervention organic viticulture. The vineyards are maintained in harmony with the surrounding natural ecosystem and they respect fully the important relationships of the vines with the flora, fauna and fungi in the soils which are also left undisturbed rather than any attempt to unnaturally radically alter or control them.
They do not believe that the use of any form of pesticide, herbicide, fungicide or indeed fertilizer is necessary to produce high quality grapes. This non-intervention ethos is carried on into the winery. The grapes are allowed to ferment with natural spontaneous fermentation from the vineyard’s wild yeasts, this is followed by unblocked malolactic fermentation and gravity led clarification without filtration. The wines are produced in Wales and are worked in amphora using only grapes from Hebron vineyard.
The aim of the vineyard is to present wines to the consumer which allows a genuine and true expression of the terroir which the vines enjoy in this beautiful part of West Wales. This ethos has had excellent results which is reflected in the superb unadulterated taste of the wines.

Llwyn Hudol Plas Vineyard

Llwyn Hudol Plas Vineyard is a new Welsh vineyard near Pwllheli owned by Tony Baldwin.

Llwynhudol translated means Magical ( or enchanted ) Grove. The house was built circa 1850 for the retiring estate manager of the Broom Hall Estate. We believe the cottages were originally the coach house and latterly cow sheds. They are now run as holiday lets so we an offer accommodation.

The beauty of Llwynhudol is that we are nestling on a hillside, which means we are sheltered from some of the winds and are a sun trap. We planted the vineyard on the south eastern side of the land that slopes down towards the sea and harbour. The vineyard is only small and was planted as an experiment but we are hoping to expand
